Right now I'm listening to "Little Rock Getaway" on Pandora Radio.
That's two damn good things, when even one is hard to find.
"Little Rock Getaway" was the signature piece of Joe Sullivan, a great piano player of the Stride/Swing era. Joe Sullivan and Jess Stacy were the piano men I always wanted to be, even before I ever heard of them. I didn't keep up the piano, mostly for reasons beyond my control, but it's always there in your head. I couldn't think of being Fats Waller or Dinu Lipatti -- that's just too much -- but I can still fantasize that I might have been there with solid white guys like Sullivan and Stacy. Just like I once heard George Carlin say what he really would have liked to become was a boogie-woogie pianist. He would have been a damn good one, too.
Pandora Radio is the cat's ass. Try it at
www.pandora.com. Takes about ten minutes to figure out, and all of a sudden you've got music you love, but never heard, playing, along with old favorites and things you've forgotten how much you liked - for free. (I have no connection whatever with Pandora......I don't even remember how I heard about them.)
Last thought....Is this my first LJ entry? I had another account a while ago, but I don't know if I ever posted anything.
My life story, though, appears in some 50,000 bits on the Internet, so maybe it's just as well that I'm starting fresh here.
